Today, Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, featuring a lightweight yet durable aerospace-grade titanium build, making them the lightest Pro models ever produced by Apple. The redesigned phones also introduce contoured edges and a customizable Action button, allowing users to tailor their iPhone experience to their preferences. These new models boast powerful camera enhancements, offering the equivalent of seven professional lenses for outstanding image quality. This includes a more advanced 48MP Main camera system with support for a super-high-resolution 24MP default setting, the next generation of portrait photography with Focus and Depth Control, improvements to Night mode and Smart HDR, and an exclusive 5x Telephoto camera available only on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The A17 Pro chip brings next-level gaming experiences and professional-level performance to these devices. The new USB-C connector has been supercharged with USB 3 speeds, providing up to 20 times faster data transfer than USB 2. Combined with new video formats, this empowers powerful professional workflows that were previously unattainable. Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro lineup incorporates Roadside Assistance via satellite, expanding upon Apple’s innovative satellite infrastructure to connect users with help in case of car trouble when they are off the grid.
Gorgeous, super light, and tough design
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max come in two sizes, 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch, and they boast a tough yet lightweight titanium design, a first for iPhones. This premium material, also used in spacecraft, has an incredible strength-to-weight ratio, making these the lightest iPhones in the Pro series. Both models have a refined brushed texture, sleek contoured edges, and the slimmest borders you’ve seen on an iPhone. These Pro models are built for durability, combining titanium strength with the toughest back glass and the industry-leading Ceramic Shield on the front.
Camera with Extra Creative Freedom
The Main camera also lets you switch between three popular focal lengths (24 mm, 28 mm, and 35 mm) and even pick one as your new default choice. Besides capturing stunning 48MP ProRAW photos, it also supports 48MP HEIF images, offering four times the resolution of standard images. The iPhone 15 Pro includes a generous 3x Telephoto camera, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max goes even further by offering the longest optical zoom ever seen on an iPhone, at 5x and 120 mm. This is perfect for close-up shots, wildlife photography, and capturing action from a distance. The Telephoto camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max features an innovative tetraprism design and combines optical image stabilization with a 3D sensor-shift autofocus module, creating Apple’s most advanced stabilization system yet.
Moving Pictures Magic
The new lenses aren’t just great for photographers; they’re a big win for videographers too. And there are some exciting improvements to the video capabilities of the iPhone 15 as a whole. Thanks to the speedy USB-C connection, you can now connect external SSDs, which means you can record ProRes 4K videos at 60 frames per second with the high data rates needed for top-notch quality.
Another significant upgrade is the addition of a log profile, which provides super-flat color profiles to maximize dynamic range. It should be easy to color grade and make iPhone 15 footage seamlessly blend with footage from other cinematic cameras. We’re really looking forward to putting this to the test.
Just like how Portrait Mode has evolved for photos, the Apple Cinematic video mode has also come a long way. It now offers smooth focus pulls and seamless focusing, while also delivering a striking shallow depth of field effect that looks more natural on the new phones.
