I did something crazy lately. I was fortunate to get my hands on Nikon 800mm f/5.6 E FL lens which is $16.3K lens and Z8 which is $4K camera. Thanks to Nikon Middle East for loaning me that set of gear. I took out the 800mm f/5.6 E FL lens into the desert and did a AutoFocus Acquisition Test across 5 different cameras which are D500, D3s, Z30, Z5 and mighty Z8. All these cameras performed entirely different over 800/5.6 lens.
And then in order to do more fair comparison, I tossed the consumer grade Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 E lens into the mix and repeat the same AutoFocus Acquisition Speed Test on the same 5 cameras and results were surprisingly different which I was not expecting. Specially for the Z8 part. Please do watch the video in order to see what I am talking about and I can assure you it will change many of your concept about camera AutoFocus system how it works.
