Lighter than many other mirrorless cameras, including Sony A7 series.
I got the chance to have Nikon Z-7 in my hands and have a real-life experience. I am not a Nikon user and wanted to seriously check out Z-7. Was called to check it out on a pre-production model with some lenses. Here is my take on it. Will be NON BIASED for sure.
Also, please keep in mind that everyone use camera differently for different purposes, so, it may be excellent for some, and for others, may not be the best!
I was NOT allowed to use any card to save images and bring them home to have a better look. I will be going by the quality I saw on LCD and 100% zoom. So, I may be wrong in the actual analysis.
It’s a reasonable nice size camera and have a good feel. Lighter than many other mirrorless cameras, including Sony A7 series. Quality is a little less refined than A7 series. Back LCD is very nice and reasonably bright. Easy to move and tilt, but not in all directions. The touch interface is good, tap to zoom is also reasonably fast. Touch focus is also not bad at all, a little slow, but not much. Viewfinder is nice, bright and fast. Didn’t find any significant lag. Buttons nicely placed. Changing focus points with joystick is also pretty good.

Focusing
Showed a lot of variations, depending on the light and lens used. I am NOT impressed by focusing speed and found a lot of haunting for focus in a little low light, again, a lot different with different lenses
Missed focus many times
The current lenses are made very plain, simple and very basic plastic. Quite a plastic feeling. They feel like low-end kit glass. Focusing speed was quite acceptable, but not something to be impressed at all. Lightweight and reasonably sharp (looking at LCD only).
24-105mm f/4.0 Lens
Was a very light lens too, felt like a very low-end lens? Picture quality was good, not bad at all for such a low end made the lens. Will serve many purposes and won’t disappoint many. The combination of these lenses and camera felt quite light and good. Adapter felt better made than lenses, light and reasonably well made. I used to follow lenses from Nikon F mount:
180-400mm f/4.0 with built in extender
Good AF, good quality picture, missed focus few times, especially in a little low light. Little is haunting though.
21mm f/1.8: Good AF speed, nicely sharp, very minimal haunting, if any
24-70mm f/2.4 VR: AF speed better, missed a few times. Soft pictures and less sharp more than sharp.
300mm f/4.0: Very slow to focus (if I am right)
105mm f/1.4: AF speed just ok. Soft, not crisp, sharp… But got a few very sharp too
58mm f/1.4: Good AF speed, soft. Used for only 4-5 clicks so, not very sure, just like 105/1.4
Sigma 85mm/1 Lens
Fast AF, better than a couple of Nikon F mount lens. Half of the pics were not crisp, sharp, but performed way better than I thought as being a third party lens. I wanted to see how sigma lenses will behave, very impressed!
Camera Interface seems to be quite same as D850. Picture colors were very good and good white balance auto-adjust. ISO up to 6400 and look reasonable to me on the LCD, but sharpness went down (expected).
Again, it was a pre-production camera, and I was not able to see the final images on a proper computer screen. So, I may be wrong
